Michael Horgan

Manortown Utd are very sad to announce the passing of one of our players Michael Horgan.

Michael has fought a brave battle against cancer for the last 18 months. He recently celebrated his 8th birthday.

Michael joined the Manortown Utd academy four years ago at aged 4. For three years he turned up every week to play the game he loved.

Last year at the Manortown Utd player of the year awards, Michael received a special medal from the club as the bravest player in Manortown Utd, to a standing ovation.

Michael was a big Arsenal fan and he met and received gifts and messages of goodwill from people like Arsenal manager, Migel Arteta and player Bukayo Saka. He was also a big golf fan and at the Irish open last month in the K Club, he shared a buggy with Rory McIlroy for a few holes. https://fb.watch/mYuAVFEwUp

Michael would have been playing this season with his friends at under 9 level. All his friends, coaches, managers, parents, committee and everyone associated with the club are devastated with this news. Therefore, the club have decided to cancel all Saturday schoolboy games this weekend, as a mark of respect to Michael and his family.  Games on Sunday for the older players will go ahead with a minutes silence before each game.

The club would like to offer our deepest condolences to Michaels parents Anne and Conor. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this very sad time.  May Michael rest in peace.

Michael’s removal is Friday morning (Oct 6th) to the Church of Pius X Templeogue, arriving for funeral mass at 11am, followed by burial in Bohernabreena cemetery.
