Manortown U14’s v Greystones in the Quarter Finals of the Hollywood Cup.
Before kick-off, Manortown were dealt a blow with the loss of Piotr and Eoin through sickness and injury. Sam Martin, only coming back from injury with a broken hand, was ill himself but took a place on the bench only to be used in case of emergency!

Manortown went into an important game with 12 players and started off well. Unfortunately, some sloppy defending at a corner had them 0-1 down after 10 minutes. The lads knuckled down and started to work themselves into the game, creating a few chances before Ryan Nicholl let a daisy cutter fly that settled in the corner. A couple of minutes later, Kian hit a beautiful curler off his left foot. That was quickly followed by a third after Kian battled away and got his shot off. Manortown were leading 3-1 at half time.
The second half started tight before the ball went out wide on the right, Riley took it on the volley from out on the wing and flew it into the top corner. More was to come from the Town as they were flying now. A through-ball from Daniel O’Keeffe set Wenda in on goal and he finished nicely. A long shot followed from Kian, which was saved by the Greystones keeper, but Daniel followed it in, he held the ball and waited for support to arrive before rolling the pass through some defenders’ legs and Luke fired home.
A brilliant 6-1 result for our U14’s team as they go marching on in the Cup. Thank you, as always, to our U14’s sponsor, tMSG.
