Manortown’s U11 Yellow team continued its progress in the Subsidiary Cup on Saturday with a narrow win 2-1 over Trinity Donaghmede FC.
Goalkeeper Finn Hyland, who has shown exceptional form and a fantastic attitude this season, was named Captain for the match. Finn’s development has come on in leaps and bounds since undertaking the dedicated goalkeeper training with Aaron Myles, the club GK coach.
In front of him, Rayyan Nguyen and Darragh Geraghty were outstanding in defence throughout the game.
The lads went into the lead with a goal from last season’s Player of the Year, Lucas Farrelly-Campbell, to make it 1-0 at half time. It was a very close game throughout with both teams showing quality and great sportsmanship.
James Rafferty went close on a few occasions on the other side of the half-time break, but the opposition managed to equalise with a scrappy goal which goalkeeper Finn Hyland struggled to see through a sea of legs.
Not long after, Manortown managed to get back in front with another goal from Lucas Farrelly-Campbell after good link-up play with Zach Dillon, Odran Kennedy and Callum O’Reilly. Conan Flanagan was also excellent, as usual, in his overall link-up play with his teammates, and Sam Dowling put in a solid shift in both attack and defence.
With the win, the lads move onto the quarter final of the Cup and hoping they can go all the way. Well done to the lads and thanks as always to our Under 11’s team sponsor, Fire Stoppers.
